Organic production is legally regulated and controlled production.
The production of organic products in the Republic of Serbia is regulated by the Law on Organic Production (“Official Gazette of the RS”, number 30/10 and 17/2019 – other laws), which entered into force on January 1, 2011. years.
This law and by-laws regulate the goals and principles of organic production, methods of organic production, control and certification, processing, labeling, storage, transportation, circulation, import and export of organic products.
The control system for organic products in Serbia was established based on the control system prescribed by EU regulations, namely Council Regulation (EC) no. 834/2007 and Commission Regulation (EC) no. 889/2008.

This law regulates the production of agricultural and other products using organic production methods (hereinafter: organic production), the goals and principles of organic production, organic production methods, control and certification in organic production, processing, labeling, storage, transportation, trade, import and export of organic products, as well as other issues of importance for organic production

This rulebook prescribes in more detail the conditions to be met by the control organization for the performance of control and certification in organic production, the methods of organic crop and livestock production, the length of the conversion period in crop and livestock production, the method of carrying out control in organic production and the measures that the authorized control the organization determines, in the case of established irregularities in the way of producing organic products, the content and form of the records kept by the authorized control organization, as well as the way of keeping those records, the content and form of the collective records, technological procedures of processing in organic production, ingredients, additives and auxiliary substances that are used in the processing of organic products, the method of cleaning and means for cleaning technological lines, the appearance of the label and the national mark of organic products, as well as the method of storing and transporting organic products.

This rulebook specifies the documentation to be submitted to the authorized control organization for the purpose of issuing a certificate that the certified organic product that is imported was produced in accordance with the law governing organic production and the regulations adopted on the basis of that law (hereinafter: certificate), as well as the conditions and method of selling organic products that can be sold together with products from conventional production only if they are packaged.
